Over the past two weeks we have learned about memory. Today we are going to wrap up this chapter by learning about the types of memory disorders.
Many people are familiar with dementia. This is a memory disorder of old age. Alzheimers disease is a type of dementia. People with dementia start to lose the ability to remember, but people with Alzheimer's actually have a build up of Amyloid plaques which are very sticky. They eventually make it impossible for the neurons to move. The person slowly begins to lose their memory with the long term memory going last. They can become violent. The person with this condition eventually dies. This condition is very difficult on the family.
